How to be in love with Mondays

Oh, Mondays!

For most of us, the word Monday is like a face palm. And I’m not joking. The super laziness and awesomeness of the weekend fades away on Monday and damn, it hits you hard! You just want some extra sleep or some extra time for yourself… yup, we all feel so needy on Mondays!

I’m not sure if we really hate Mondays, but definitely, we dislike the feeling of being cranky and tired on Monday morning and the association of our mood with the fact that it’s the first day of work or school or whatever. One thing’s for sure, Garfield really hated Mondays! But we’re not Garfield, we’re just us and we have to deal with that!

Although I am not the biggest fan of Mondays, I managed somehow to change the way I feel about Mondays and that was not something I accomplished overnight. It really took a while and I had my ups and downs while trying to keep up with my schedule and emotions. It may seem an easy task, but it’s quite challenging, I assure you.

The best part of changing the way you perceive Mondays is that you will achieve the pure joy that comes from a new fresh week. It’s only a matter of perspective, trust me. You may feel overwhelmed by the extra volume of work you will find on your desk on Monday morning, or by the fact that Monday is the day you will quit smoking or begin a losing weight program, but listen, we all had those Mondays!

As a matter of fact, we had hundreds of Mondays waiting for us to be brave and to make that change, but instead, we choose to hide under an extra hour of sleep or another week delay.

As you can see, most of our Mondays are not likeable because we don’t feel in acceptance with our change, we are scared or we are just not getting used to a tight schedule. The key to moving forward is to step up and deal with whatever is in front of you, like a new Monday, a new week or a new challenge. There will always be a matter of perspective.

But you see, to make your Mondays sweeter, you can try a few tips. You will feel more comfortable and in control with your Mondays. Try to embrace the change following a few steps:
  • Get up early (5 am is the best hour to start your day)
  • Exercise (you can do yoga, aerobics, jogging or whatever it suits you)
  • Care for your body (it improves your self-esteem)
  • Make some coffee or tea (it gives you tranquility)
  • Read some news or listen to the news in your way to work (to be informed)
  • Read a book if you’re taking the subway (it improves your mental status and develops your vocabulary)
  • Organize and prioritize your work (for time and work efficiency)
  • Begin the day with the tasks that scares you the most (it improves your professional skills)
  • Take some 10 minutes break (for body and mind health)
  • Listen to music (for body and mind health)
  • Pet your cat or do some shelter volunteering (it makes you a better person)
  • Find support groups for your new tasks and challenges (you don’t have to be alone)
  • Forget about online social media in the evening! (it’s healthier go for a walk and read before going to bed)
